Route description:
The route of 35km (4-6 hours) is a perfect opportunity to explore the beautiful Outeniqua region and be rewarded by spectacular vistas over the Garden Route. This circular route offers spectacular views of Tsitsikamma, Plettenberg Bay, Knysna and Sedgefield in the distance, hence the name "Bay to Bay View".

The 4356ha Millwood Nature Reserve is situated southeast of town of Nollshalte in the Outeniqua mountain range. It was set aside for the conservation of fauna and flora in 1984. The two main vegetation types found on the reserve are mountain fynbos and afromontane forest. Small populations of klipspringer, common duiker, grysbuck, bushpig and chachma baboons occur on the reserve. Leopards frequent the mountains but are seldom seen.

The route starts at the apple farm Vergenoeg and winds its way up to the crest of the Outeniqua mountains. A short detour takes you to Spitskop Viewpoint (8km), situated a lofty 1453m above sea level.

From here the trail rides the ridge for a while before dropping down into the Millwood basin to a campsite/picnic site. The same route is then followed to the crest, where exit signboards will take you back to the starting point.

This route can be done as a two-day route or a one-day trail.

The surrounding area is one of mystery and legend. The route was used as far back as the late 1800s by people travelling between the Langkloof and Knysna.

Keys for the reserve must be collected at the Palm garage in Nollshalte. Keys will be issued only on presentation of a valid permit.
