Shipwreck Trail

The mysterious Diamond Coast Shipwreck Trail is within the restricted diamond mine area and commences at the Koingnaas caravan park or Noup divers huts. The trail hugs the Diamond Coast for approximately 37 km and is often challenging being both rocky and sandy.

One of the best kept secrets is the several shipwrecks found alone this pristine coastline and visitors will probably see the endangered 'Oystercatchers'. The Shipwrecks enriched by local folklore as it is whispered and speculated, that the Brazilian steamer the 'Piratini' was sunk by German torpedo during the 2nd world war, but today, is on its way to becoming a National Heritage Site.

The intrepid visitor will also come across numerous archaeological middens from the late Stone Age. Visitors are welcome throughout the whole year and it is advisable to book early, because security clearance needs to be arranged at least 5 days before arrival.

Please note this area is a 'crime free zone' - so lets keep it this way!
