Enseleni Nature reserve consists of coastal grasslands and forest and the Nseleni river provides a freshwater habitat.For birding enthusiasts the reserve boasts several unusual or rare species, namely African finfoot, purple crested lourie, Pels fishing owl, white-eared barbet and three species of elusive nightjars, Mozambique, fiery necked and European.
Game species occurring in the reserve include giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, impala, reedbuck, waterbuck, bushbuck, bushpig, red, blue and grey duiker, hippopotamus, crocodile, large-spotted genet and the shy bushbaby.
The reserve has a magnificent Activities Centre which is available for use by education groups and as a conference facility. The Centre is fitted with modern and comprehensive audio visual equipment and facilities include ablutions, kitchen, boma and electricity. No accommodation, camping or caravanning is available at the camp. Only picnic sites are available. No bookings are necessary for picnicking.

There is no camp at Enseleni Nature Reserve.
A roving field ranger is on duty during the day as the office is open at irregular hours.

There is no curio shop at Enseleni Nature Reserve.
As crocodiles and bilharzia are found in the Nseleni river, visitors are not advised to swim in the rivers and do so at their own risk.Visitors are advised not to drink river water.
How to get there.
The reserve is situated 11 km north of Empangeni on the N2 freeway. The entrance gate is on the western side of the road.
Pets are not permitted at Reserve.
Education groups are admitted free.
There are two trails in the reserve, which offer fantastic scenery and the opportunity to experience different parts of the reserve and to spot a variety of birds and animals. The Nkonkoni trail is 7 km and the Mvubu trail is 2 km in length.Reservations for the centre are done at the Richards Bay Office. Tel No. 0351 - 753 2330.
