With the Bushmans River flowing through a spectacular gorge in the reserve, Weenen's excellent road system and walking trails, visitors have many scenic and game viewing opportunities as they walk or drive around the reserve. 

Both black and white rhino have been introduced since the 5 000 ha reserve was proclaimed in 1974. Other re-introduced game includes giraffe, buffalo, red hartebeest, eland, zebra, klipspringer, ostrich, common reedbuck, and roan antelope. Other species which have recolonised the area included grey duiker, bushbuck, steenbuck, black-backed jackal, hyaena and mountain reedbuck. These and the more than 251 bird species, the scenic landscape and the rich valley bushveld vegetation contribute to Weenen's growing reputation as a small but superbly appointed wildlife destination accessible for both day and over-night visitors.

Amenities include a game viewing hide at one of the many waterholes, a vulture feeding site and three picnic sites all equipped with barbecue facilities, one with a magnificent view site.The reserve has three self-guided trails, and guided walks can also be booked.

Accommodation consists of a well appointed campground with 12 camping or caravanning sites, five of which have electricity connections, and hot and cold water ablution facilities.There is also a fully equipped self contained 5 bed cottage with barbecue facilities and an exclusive picnic site next to a waterhole.

The Nyandu Environmental Tented Camp is situated in a pristine valley alongside the banks of the Nyandu river in the western section of the reserve. Sited under a canopy of acacia trees the camp can accommodate 18 adults or 30 children. A kitchen tent has cooking and washing up facilities as well as a freezer.

Facilities: 
A tented education camp. 

The nearest town which has a full range of services is Weenen which is 8 kms away. 

How to get there:
Turn off the N3 into Estcourt, go right through the town and take the Colenso road. After 3 kms turn right on to the Weenen road. 

Pets are not permitted into the reserve. 

Concessions:
Education groups from KwaZulu-Natal are admitted free to the reserve.

ACCOMMODATION

An excellent road network and guided and self guided trails allow visitors to view a variety of wildlife species including white rhino, giraffe, zebra, klipspringer, ostrich, common reedbuck, grey duiker, bushbuck, steenbuck and mountain reedbuck.

Over 250 bird species have also been recorded. Guest facilities include a game-viewing hide near one of the waterholes, a vulture feeding site and three picnic sites with barbecue facilities.
Weenen’s campsite boasts thirteen shady campsites, which accommodate tents and caravans. Each campsite features barbecue facilities with firewood and charcoal for sale.
Five of the campsites are electrified.

The modern ablutions feature hot baths and showers, flush toilets and basins.
Weenen Game Reserve also features a fully equipped, self-catering cottage for the convenience of guests.
