The Kimberley Meander

'Overwhelmingly fascinating -undoubtedly South Africa's most authentic destination!'

This is how many of our visitors react after just a few hours' stay in Kimberley. And then there was the one who quipped: 'Now I know why Kimberley's holes are too big to just drive past"

The City and the Diamond Fields indeed offer a lot more than just the world famous Big Hole which is still the largest hand-dug hole on earth! Tourists can indulge in tracing the origins of humankind by visiting important archaeological sites, call in at the diamond diggings or plunge almost a kilometre deep into Mother Earth touring a working De Beers diamond mine. They can stand in awe while looking at the San ('Bushmen') rock art at Wildebeest Kuil or do a special tour to the IXun and Khwe San textile and ceramic workshops.

Our visitors can take a trip to Galeshewe township to explore everyday life in a township and join the locals to listen to some fine jazz or cultural music.

Visitors can of course follow the footsteps of the Anglo-Boer War Generals or towering personalities like Sol Plaatje,
the first African to write a novel in English, and Cecil John Rhodes who became the most influential person in world diamond trading through the formation of the amalgamated De Beers Consolidated Mines Ltd.

Kimberley boasts many haunted corners which make for one of the world's most exciting Ghost Trails. For the more faint-hearted and open space junkies, there is fly-fishing, water rafting, game-viewing, dune-climbing or historical walks to choose from, and when you're not in the mood for doing much, you can raise a toast to history in one of our historic pubs, dine out in top restaurants sipping locally produced quality wines. You can also take a slow drive through our beautiful suburbs with their old and famous houses showing a distinctive Kimberley architecture including that of local architects Greatbatch and Timlin.

Yes, we are convinced that you'll enjoy the many original and authentic attractions of Kimberley and the Diamond Fields. We trust you'll take cocopan loads of shining memories with you to share with your family and friends back home. You're really welcome!
