Escape over the Mountains
Day 1:
Depart from Cape Town on the N2 over Sir Lowry's Pass to Grabouw. Visit the Apple Museum where you will experience the history of the apple and pear industry. Continue with the N2 over Houw Hoek Pass and take the R406 to Greyton. Greyton is an ideal country getaway that caters for all your outdoor activity needs as well as fireside relaxation in quaint cottages. Overnight in Greyton.
Day 2:
Retrace your tracks to Genadendal, the first Moravian Mission station founded in South Africa. Visit the Museum Complex and Khoi pottery. Guided tours available.
Leave Genadendal on the gravel road connecting to the R43 to Villiersdorp and experience a real country gravel road with its slower pace and beautiful surroundings. Unfortunately this road is not sign posted, ask for directions in Genadendal at the Museum or Tourism Bureau.
Or
Travel back to the N2 and turn towards Cape Town. Take the R43 to Villiersdorp. The town is surrounded by lush farmlands, spectacular mountains and the magnificent Theewaterskloof Dam. It is home to a Wild Flower Garden. Overnight in Villiersdorp.
Day 3:
Leave Villiersdorp and travel via R321 over Viljoen's Pass back to Grabouw where you rejoin the N2 and continue over Sir Lowry's Pass back to Cape Town.
