Fynbos Farm Route
Start east of the bridge over the Goukou River. Drive north to the N2. After 2,3 km you will see a road on your right leading up between two rows of blue gum trees, where a 15km 4X4 track can be used at a small fee. Return to the tar road, proceed for 1,5km The sign indicates "Melkhoutfontein". Turn right, 1km further to the historic hamlet: home to Soete Inval Botanical Garden & Soete Arbeid Craft Workshop
For information on the history and points of interest, take the second road left and drive to the first corner to the quaint restored monument, home to the Information Bureau. Tel:(028) 754 3250 On your return turn right and continue north. After 9,6km you will reach an entrance on your left leading to a group of green roofed industrial buildings. One of these buildings houses the unique museum for veteran, but beautifully restored tractors and other machines.
On your return to the tar road at "Kardoesie", a little roadside store, interesting products and refreshments are available. Drive 3,6km , turn left at the sign "Melkhoutkraal". Follow the main gravel road for 4,8km. Look out for a name board on your left indicating "Steve and Brenda Neate". Turn left and follow the road to the Neate's house. The Neate's are honey farmers. Brenda also breeds parrots. Different flavours of
honey can be purchased. Contact No. (028) 754 3399. On leaving the Neate's continue for 3,8km to a T-junction. On your way you will cross the Goukou river again over a low water bridge. At the T-junction turn right and follow the road for 6,4km to another T-junction
At this T-junction turn left. Follow this road for 5,This is a turnoff to Nico and Wilmarie de Jager's farm, "Tromp se Kop". Follow the road to the house clearly visible against the rocky ridge. Wilmarie is prepared to show you their wealth of proteas and pincushions as well as other fynbos vegetation. Flowers are for sale.
Accommodation is available and an exciting night game drive can be arranged. Contact no (028) 754 8806. Drive 12,5km to the tar road. This road connects Stilbaai with Jongensfontein. Turn right to reach Jongensfontein. This picturesque seaside hamlet is situated in an amphitheatre - like setting overlooking a shallow sheltered bay - a surfer's paradise.
Return to the tar road, follow the road for 6 km . The cemetery is on your left. Turn right and follow the road to me commercial fishing harbour and enjoyable "off-jetty angling". Meals are available. A whale watching site is situated just above the harbour. Another whale view site is on the eastern side of the river mouth at the Lappiesbaai Restaurant at the main beach
