DORDRECHT
Dordrecht is another country town that was formed by the Dutch Reformed Church. In 1855 the inhabitants of the farms Boschrand, Waschbamk and other farms applied to establish a new parish in the area. This was done in 1856 and the farm Boschrand was used for this purpose and the new township was laid out, and was named after the town in the Netherlands where the historic synod of the Reformed Churches was held in 1618.

Dordrecht is in a sheep farming area and like the other areas in the north eastern parts of the Province is in an area of great natural beauty. The imposing Dutch Reformed Church is made out of local sandstone and is one of the finest examples of Victorian gothic architecture to be found in South Africa. The local museum is has an excellent display prehistoric rock art and stone tools. The area is an area of wide open spaces and is an excellent base for farm stays and hunting and fly-fishing trips.
