Mtubatuba Historical & Cultural Attractions

Game Pits, Umfolozi
Situated within the confluence of the White and Black Umfolozi Rivers in the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve, these four-metre deep pits were used by the Zulus of King Shaka's time for catching wild game. Although badly corroded, they are still visible.

Songs of Zululand
It is possible to enjoy the traditional songs and dances of Zululand, as practised and performd by school children on the R618 tourism route, between the N2 and the Nyalazi Gate of the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park. The Song of Zululand programme is perfomed every weekday excluding Fridays during school term by children from local schools. The youngsters are under the supervision of their teachers, who are on hand to welcome visitors and explain the dances and songs performed. Booking is not necessary and starting time is generally 13h00, although this may vary according to the arrival of visitors. There is nocharge for the Songs of Zululand performance, but donations towards school funds may be made.
